Garment Care Guide – Sustainable Fashion Made to Last
At trtmnt, we design each garment to age gracefully, combining style, durability, and sustainable materials. Our work pants, t-shirts, and beanies use hemp-cotton canvas, 100% GRS certified recycled cotton recycled cotton, and merino wool to provide long-lasting wear with minimal environmental impact. Proper garment care helps extend each piece’s life, ensuring it stays true to original feel, and fit, while the garment dye ages uniquely with each wearer. Here’s how to care for your trtmnt clothing:
General Garment Care Tips
1. Dry Cleaning Options
For a pristine look, eco-friendly dry cleaning can keep your garment looking new longer, especially for delicate pieces like merino wool. However, to minimize environmental impact, we recommend spot cleaning or airing out pieces as much as possible.
2. Hand Washing
For most items, hand washing with a gentle, natural detergent in cool water is ideal. This preserves color, fit, and reduces fiber wear. Rinse carefully, shake out to reshape, and hang to dry. Avoid wringing to keep fabrics from stretching.
3. Machine Washing for Texture
If you prefer a naturally worn look, machine washing on a gentle, cold-water cycle can enhance texture. This works best on sturdy fabrics like hemp-cotton canvas but may accelerate wear on more delicate textiles.
trtmnt Fabric-Specific Care
Hemp-Cotton Work Pants: Hand washing or machine washing on a gentle cycle will maintain durability and fit. Over time, these pants will develop a unique fade that complements your style. Learn more about hemp fabrics.
Recycled Cotton T-Shirts: Gentle machine washing is suitable for these tees but we recommend a hang dry + iron or steamer to maintain the fit and form. A worn-in look will naturally emerge with the garment dye, perfect for a casual, sustainable style.
Merino Wool Beanies: Spot clean or air out your beanie between wears. For a full wash, use cool water and natural soap, reshaping while damp to retain the original fit. Discover why merino wool is great for sustainable fashion.
